8″ Makerfarm Prusa i3v Assembly!

In May 2014, I graduated from the University of Florida with a Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering. I’ve been following the 3D printing hobby community for a year or so at this point, and I figured now was the best time to jump into it. As a graduation gift to myself, I purchased an 8″ Makerfarm Prusa i3v.

I could not be more happy with that decision The kit contained all the hardware needed, besides the Power Supply and the glass build plate. I had heard some concerns about the flex of a wooden frame, but over the last 6 months I have had absolutely no problems with it. Hundreds of prints, thousands of hours of print time, and the machine is still chugging along!

The assembly was a breeze. The instructions were clear and for the most part well thought out. There were a couple of points which could be more clear, such as where to cut the belts for the x and y axis, but overall it went without a hitch. It took me about 3 nights to put it together, and another couple of days to calibrate it to get the prints how I wanted.

The specs I went with:
8″ Makerfarm Prusa i3v
0.4 mm Hexagon Nozzle for 1.75 mm filament
450 Watt ATX Power Supply
8″ glass plate cut at my local Lowes

A few months after I got the 8″ prusa, Makerfarm released their 10″ model, and then their 12″ model. The 12″ model is the best deal I have ever seen for 3D printers so far, that is a massive build area for only $650. If you are looking into getting into 3D printing as a hobby, I would highly recommend the 12″ Makerfarm Prusa i3v. You won’t regret it!
